Car and Driver reviews the Audi RS7 Performance

$

While a bit long in the tooth now, the Audi RS7 Performance is still an absolute monster. Admittedly, the Performance variant is a bit new but the RS7 as a whole is getting quite old. Still, though, 605 hp is a monstrous figure that flat-out embarrasses most other performance cars. But horsepower isn’t everything, so is the RS7 Performance still any good, even though all of its competitors are newer?

According to Car and Driver, it still has a lot of reason to want it, though only if you don’t need five seats. That’s one of the bigger downfalls of the RS7 Performance, though there aren’t many. It also has relatively numb steering, which has been said about it since its inception. Oh, and it’s ride can loosen dental work, it’s that stiff. However, if you can overlook those things, which many enthusiasts can, the Audi RS7 Performance is an absolute beast of a machine.

It’s mighty 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 uses its 605 hp to rocket it to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and on to 100 mph in just over 7 seconds and it can run an 11.3 quarter-mile stock. That’s properly quick. All the while, it can shuttle four adults and a decent amount of luggage in its surprisingly practical hatchback trunk. It’s hard to argue with that.

It also looks fantastic, as the RS7 Performance is still a handsome machine. The Performance variant doesn’t look that much different from the standard car but its grille is blacked out and has some other black touches, such as window trim and exhaust surround, that make it more aggressive looking. On the inside, some of the tech is dated now, with the MMI system lagging a bit behind its more modern siblings, such as the A4 and Q7, but the cabin is still comfortable, premium and lovely.

Overall, it seems like Car and Driver liked the RS7 despite some of its faults. It is an old car now and its competitors are starting to pass it by. However, it’s still and old dog worth adopting.

VIDEO: Audi RS7 Performance vs Tesla Model S P100D in Motor Trend Head 2 Head

A little while back, Tesla launched it new version of the Model S, called the P100D. The “P” in its name stands for Performance and the “D” stands to dual, referring to the dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The “100” in its name stands for the kWh of its battery. With all of that combined, and with ‘Ludicrous Plus’ mode, the Model S P100D is the fastest accelerating car in the world. Its claimed 0-60 mph is 2.39 seconds, which is faster than any production car in history. However, the Audi RS7 Performance, while old now, still has a few tricks up its sleeve. So which car is better? Motor Trend finds out.

It’s actually quite shocking to see how the Model S is clearly designed after the Audi RS7. Its shape, size, length and width are all almost identical, something that Motor Trend criticizes Tesla for. Audi has to package and engine, transmission, two driveshafts and two differentials in the RS7 but the Model S only has to package a battery and electric motor. With that freedom, you’d think Tesla could have come up with something more exciting.

The Model S does earn back some brownie points for its extra space and two trunks, which allowed it to carry more bags of manure than the Audi. Which many Tesla and Audi customers are going to do with their very expensive, leather-lined luxury cars.

On the inside, both cars score big points in different ways. While the Audi RS7’s cabin is old now, it’s still a masterclass in design and refinement. Everything is made of extremely high-quality materials and the layout is near-perfect. Inside the Tesla, the design is more modern and the tech is more impressive, housing the best touchscreen infotainment system on the market, but its quality is seriously lacking in such an expensive car.

But you don’t to read about, and watch, the fastest accelerating car of all time haul manure. You want to see how they do on a track. Naturally, MT drag raced the two cars and the results were obvious. Under the RS7’s hood lies a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that, in Performance-guise, makes 605 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The Model S P100D, by contrast, makes a combined 680 hp from its dual electric motors. So both make over 600 hp and both are all-wheel drive. The Audi RS7 Performance is lighter but the Tesla Model S doesn’t need to rev or change gears.

The result is that the Model S destroys the RS7 in the drag race. Admittedly, the RS7 starts to catch up, due to its better high-speed acceleration thanks to electric cars falling off at higher speed, it’s not enough. The Model S fires off the line, giving it a lead it never relinquishes.

In the end, they give the win to the Tesla Model S. Not only is it faster and more practical, but it does it without using a single drop of fuel. It’s the future of the performance sedan while the Audi RS7 Performance is the past.

VIDEO: Audi RS7 vs Nissan GT-R vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S — Drag Race

For about a decade, the current-gen Nissan GT-R has been the most dominant production car in a drag race. For years, there was simply nothing that could keep up with the GT-R. In fact, if you even thought about racing the GT-R in anything other than a mid-engine supercar, you were mad. It wouldn’t work. You’d get roasted and go home crying. However, in recent months, there have been some very fast cars coming out, cars capable of besting Godzilla, even at its own game. A couple of them have come from Audi. But is the GT-R so old now that it will lose a drag race to a couple of big sedans?

In this drag race video from Top Gear, the mighty Nissan GT-R takes on the Audi RS7 and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S. The former has been around a long time and is well-known for being very fast. Its 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 makes 560 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. All of that power is sent through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi claims a 0-60 mph time in 3.2 seconds. As for the AMG, it also uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that makes a simply astonishing 600 hp and an almost silly 627 lb-ft of torque. That unshackled fury is sent through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. AMG claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds but it’s way, way faster than that. Then, there’s the old-guy, the GT-R. It uses a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V6 with 565 hp and 467 lb-ft of torque. Its transmission is as ancient as the GT-R itself and is a six-speed dual-clutch unit, also sending power to all four wheels. Despite being down on power, the GT-R has the fastest 0-60 mph time, doing it in about 2.8 seconds.

So which will be faster in a straight line?

At the jump, both sedans take off, beating the GT-R off the line. It’s actually remarkable how hard both the Audi and AMG launch. The Audi RS7 actually takes the lead for a bit, keeping ahead of the other two. But the lighter weight of the Nissan and the extra power of the AMG out-muscle the RS7 and finish ahead of it. The GT-R actually ends up winning the race, despite being the slowest off the line. So there’s still some fight left in the old girl.

Still, what’s remarkable is that two genuine luxury sedans, with four doors, seating for four adults, more luxury and technology than anyone could ask for and big trunks, were able to seriously keep up with a supercar-slayer. It’s insane how far automotive performance has come. Check the video out here.

The Holiday season is almost upon us. This is Audi’s marketing team’s favorite time of year, as they love to put out funny and interesting Holiday commercials and advertisements. Despite being a bit early, this new commercial, dubbed “Parking Lot”, is a funny little commercial to kick off the Holiday season and it features an Audi RS3 Sedan and an RS7.

In this new commercial, to dads are pulling into the same parking garage at the same time. On one side of the ticket machine is Dad One in his Audi RS3 Sedan and on the other side is Dad Two in his RS7. They both take their tickets for the garage at the same time and give each other a friendly nod. Until the screen tells them that there’s only one parking spot left on the packed holiday shopping day. So they both race ahead to find the spot.

At first, it’s just a bit of friendly competition, as Dad Two gets stuck when his RS7 is two wide to move around a woman loading her minivan. The Audi RS3 is slim enough to make it around, so Dad One gets around. They play this game for awhile, trying to find spots as frustrating holiday shoppers get in the way. When Dad Two finds a spot, the RS7 is two wide and his backup camera shows that it’s not even close.

When they both finally reach the roof of the parking garage, they notice a ramp that might launch them to another rooftop with open spots. So they both gun it toward that ramp, ready to launch their cars literally across a rootop. As they scream, anticipating jumping their cars like a Fast & Furious movie, the screen goes black.

They’re then shown pushing shopping carts through a store when they bump carts and recognize each other. They then see that there’s only one more toy left of the kind they need. So they both look at each other angrily again and race toward it.

It’s a funny commercial that actually features some fun driving with two very cool Audis. Just the thing to get us in the Holiday mood.

SPIED: 2019 Audi RS7 caught testing without camo

When Audi debuted the newest A7, the Audi fanbase went nuts over its looks, technology and dynamic potential. Mostly its looks, though. But what was even more exciting was the idea of what the upcoming Audi RS7 could bring on the new platform and with its new powertrains. Now, some spy photos have surfaced, showing the Audi RS7 completely uncovered by camouflage and it looks about as expected. (We don’t own the photos but they can be seen here)

In these photos, the Audi RS7 looks great. It looks mean, aggressive and angry. The hood is heavily sculpted, much like that of the Audi RS5 Coupe, its blacked out grille looks great and its front air intakes are large. It also sits quite low with aggressive fender flares that makes the RS7 seem more muscular. While it’s a very evolutionary change from the current-gen RS7, it does end up making the current car look ancient.

That sentiment is especially true out back. The new rear deck looks so much tighter, sharper and more athletic. It’s the little things that do it, such as the sharp crease of the rear shoulder line and the way the C-pillar crease sort of extends into the body. Or how the crease from the decklid spoiler continues into the rear quarter panel. The massive LED rear taillight strip doesn’t hurt, either. The body sculpting Audi is doing lately is second-to-none, with the sharpest of creases and impossibly tight panels gaps. It’s remarkable.

Brand-New Audi A7

Bigger news than the way the RS7 looks, though, is what’s going to be under the hood. The Audi RS7 will bring two firsts to the Ingolstadt-based brand. Firstly, it will be the first RS-badged car to be available with more than one powertrain. Secondly, it will be the very first plug-in hybrid performance car from Audi Sport.

According to Audi’s head of design, Marc Lichte, the standard Audi RS7 powertrain will be the familiar 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, the same one that’s shared with the Porsche Panamera, and an eight-speed S-Tronic, dual-clutch gearbox, also borrowed from Porsche. That powetrain will develop around 650 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. There are no performance figures at the moment but expect a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds or less.

The second and optional powertrain will be a plug-in hybrid variant. Essentially, it will add an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack to the standard setup, increasing power by 150 hp. However, in the hybrid version, the V8 will be detuned to about 550 hp. So expect total system power of the hybrid RS7 to be about 750 hp. There will also be the added benefit of having instant electric torque to fill in the turbo-lag gaps, making acceleration even more brutal. The hybrid Audi RS7 should be capable of a 0-60 mph time of around 3.2 seconds, maybe even quicker.

We’re incredibly excited about the upcoming Audi RS7 and its hybrid variant. We’ll likely see it at the end of 2018 and it will go on sale as a 2019 model car.

For the most part, the Audi RS7 is one of the best high-performance cars available on the market today. It’s able to haul a family of four, complete with loads of cargo in the rear, while being able to give Ferraris and Lamborghinis a run for their money. The RS7 features a powerful 4.0 Liter V8 TFSI engine which delivers a whopping 560 horsepower and 516lb-ft of torque. This kind of performance levels allows the Audi RS7 to sprint from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in just just 3.7 seconds. When Audi tested the RS7 on the track, it managed to achieved a top speed of 174mph (280km/h). Not bad for a vehicle that can haul four people, loads of baggage and still look amazing.

While a bit long in the tooth design wise, this pre-facelift Daytona Gray Pearl Audi RS7 still looks incredible. However, for the owner of this RS7, the need to add an aftermarket touch to his vehicle was prevalent. Hence, the owner turned to GMP Performance for his aftermarket tuning needs.

Daytona Gray Pearl Audi RS7 Upgraded With ADV.1 Wheels

The choice for this Audi RS7’s visual makeover is a set of ADV.1 Wheels. These wheels are some of the lightest and most appealing vehicles available on the market today, giving high-performance vehicles like these an intricate finishing touch. For this build, the owner chose a set of ADV5.0 M.V2 Superlight wheels. These come in sizes of 21×10.5 in the front and 21×10.5 rear. Thanks to a Matte Black finish and 50/50 Exposed Hardware option, the wheels add that perfect accent to this gorgeous vehicle.

SPIED: Second-Gen Audi RS7 caught doing some winter

$

Audi made big waves with its second-generation A7 release, recently. The first-gen car was so good looking, and still is all these years later, so it was really quite shocking to see how much better the second-gen car looks. We’re incredibly excited for the new Audi A7 but the car we’re even more excited for is its high-performance sibling — the Audi RS7.

The second-gen Audi RS7 was just caught testing again, this time in the snow (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here). However, it might have fooled people at a quick glace, as the RS7 test mule was wearing pretty plain looking wheels and “A7” badges on it. It doesn’t help that the test mule looks like a pretty standard A7. Though, there are some pretty obvious giveaways that only the more astute enthusiast would spot.

For instance, the two massive oval exhausts that flank each side of the rear are dead giveaways. Only Audi “RS” models have such exhaust tips. Standard Audis just get a small circular exhaust on either side of the rear (or they get fake plastic panels, which is infuriating) and Audi “S” model cars get quad exhausts. Only Audi RS cars get the massive twin ovals. So this is clearly an Audi RS7. Also, we can see that there is more aggressive body work bolted to the outside, such as wider fender flares and more aggressive rear haunches. The fender flares are reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro and look quite good, adding width and aggression to the exterior of this RS7.

Standard Audi A7

The second giveaway is the sheer size of the brake calipers. They’re massive and far too big for any standard Audi A7. They also seem to be six-piston calipers up front, which would be obnoxious overkill in a standard A7. Now, the wheels are pretty boring A7 wheels but this car is doing its testing in the snow, so it needs to wear winter tires and they probably just slapped some on regular wheels for the test mule.

We’re hearing that the upcoming Audi RS7 will borrow a variant of the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that’s shared with Audi and Porsche. In RS7-guise, we’re hearing about 650 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That’s considerably more than the 600 hp from the current RS7 Performance. With the lighter weight of this new car, in addition to its added power, we’re expecting dramatically improved performance times. There are also rumors of a second powertrain option for the upcoming RS7, which would be a first for any Audi Sport model. That second powertrain is rumored to be a plug-in hybrid version of the same twin-turbo V8. But it’s not being done for fuel efficiency. Instead, it’s done for power, as the twin-turbo V8 is said to combine with the hybrids electric motor to make 700 hp.

So far, this new Audi RS7 is shaping up to be the most exciting new Audi since the second-gen Audi R8. We can’t wait to see what it really looks like and what really powers it in the near future.

VIDEO: 802 hp Supercharged Audi R8 V10 Plus vs 750 hp Audi RS7

$

Two cars that have never been criticized for being slow are the Audi R8 V10 Plus and Audi RS7. Both of which are very, very fast cars. The former uses a naturally-aspirated 5.2 liter V10 engine with 610 hp. The former sports a twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 with 570 hp. In terms of performance, the RS7 can hit 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds while the R8 has been clock as fast as 2.9 seconds. So both are powerful cars that are plenty quick. But what if you made them faster? Apparently some people have made these cars faster and they’re insane.

In this new video from AutoTopNL, we get a POV look at what it’s like to drive an 802 hp, supercharged Audi R8 V10 Plus and a 750 hp Audi RS7.

We get look at both cars’ speedometers first, with the RS7 above and the R8 below. The Audi R8 takes off quicker, which is expected considering its hp and weight advantage, but the RS7’s not far off. Both rocket to triple-digit speeds with ease, though. So easy, in fact, that it’s sort of scary. They also easily hit their original top speeds. In fact, the 260 km/h (161 mph) top speed of the RS7 gets eclipsed so much that the needle swings back around to zero.

After that, we check out the 802 hp Audi R8 on its own and it’s absurd. It fires so violently off the line that it almost looks tough to control. But once it gets moving, it’s a bullet-train. Not only is it rock-solid stable at speed, but it hits 324 km/h (200 mph) as if it were nothing. It’s crazy.

Next we see the 750 hp Audi RS7 on its own and it’s just as impressive. The RS7 isn’t a slinky, mid-engine supercar. It’s a front-engine, four-door luxury car that’s considerably heavier than the R8. So it’s not as easy to make incredibly fast. Except this one is. What’s remarkable is that it hits an indicated 325 km/h (201 mph), just a hint faster than the R8. It’s simply insane that cars as smooth, stable, luxurious and quiet as these can do those sorts of speeds. This is truly the golden age of the automobile.

SPIED: Audi RS7 caught testing on Nurburgring

$

When the new, second-gen Audi A7 was first revealed, we were shocked at how it actually ended up looking better than its stunning predecessor. Immediately afterward, though, our thoughts turned toward future models, to cars like the upcoming S7 and RS7. Their added aggression will only make an already great design even better. So if you’re wondering what the angriest version, the Audi RS7, will look like, just check these new spy photos. (We don’t own them but see them here)

Seen here testing on the Nurburgring, the Audi RS7 is noticeably more aggressive than its standard A7 sibling. With most modern Audis, the half-baked ‘S’ model cars aren’t really much angrier looking than their standard ‘A’ counterparts, this new RS7 is markedly sportier.

It helps that it’s black on black, which looks menacing. But its larger front air intakes, slammed ride height and massive oval exhausts, the latter of which being a signature Audi Sport design cue, all combine to make it look positively furious. Having said that, it’s still incredibly sleek and seductive looking.

Standard Audi A7

What’s interesting is that Audi is barely covering the RS7, with only some camouflage on the front air intakes. It will likely also get different wheels for the production car, as these are likely just for the test mule.

The Audi RS7 will likely be paired with a version of the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that powers the Porsche Panamera Turbo S. It’s said to make around 650 hp, which is more than all of its competitors, and there could even be a hybrid version that makes 700 hp. With that sort of power, the Audi RS7 will be one of the fastest, most dynamic cars in its class, with more power than both the new BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63. It will also be the best looking.

VIDEO: Audi RS7 understeers on the Nurburgring

This new, second-generation Audi A7 has moved a bit upmarket from the car it replaces. So it’s bigger, heavier, more comfortable and more luxurious. The downside of that, though, is that the new A7 is a bit less dynamic, less exciting than the first-gen car. It’s still an impressive handling car, it just can’t hide its heft and size. It seems as if the same can be said about the new Audi RS7, which was just caught testing at the famed Nurburgring.

Seen here in this new spy video, the Audi RS7 seems fast but also seems big and heavy. As it takes on some of the ‘Ring’s tighter, tougher corners, the big RS7 seems to understeer and bit and you can hear its tires screaming in protest. It doesn’t matter how much power it has, without serious weight savings, it just can’t hide all of its heft.

And it will be powerful. It’s rumored to be packing over 600 hp from a twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the Porsche Panamera Turbo. There’s also word that it could be offered with an additional powertrain, a hybrid setup using the same V8 but with an electric motor to add power, making a total of about 700 hp. This would be a similar powertrain to that of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E Hybrid.

Though, we’re not so sure corners are exactly what the new Audi RS7 will be about. It’s going to be mainly for going incredibly fast in a straight line while being wrapped in supreme comfort and style. And stylish it will be. This RS7 might seem like it understeers but it looks damn good doing it. Plus, it’s going to have one of the coolest interiors in the business. We’ve yet to see Audi Sport make a version of Audi’s new interior, featured on the A8, A7 and A6.

Next-Gen Audi RS7 will be Audi’s most powerful car of all time

$

0

Awhile back, we learned that the Audi RS7 will come in two flavors, offering two different powertrains — a standard RS7 and a performance variant. The former will pack a conventional powertrain and the latter will be getting a plug-in hybrid powertrain, similar to that of the Porsche Panamera Turbo E S Hybrid. That hybrid RS7 will become the most power car Audi has ever made. Ever.

From what we’ve heard, the standard Audi RS7 will use a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 packing around 600 hp. It’s the same engine used in the Porsche Panamera Turbo, the Bentley Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus. So it will be extremely powerful and will make the RS7 very, very fast. But it’s the Performance variant that will be the most powerful Audi ever. Packing the same twin-turbo V8 combined with an electric motor, the Audi RS7 Performance is said to make close to 700 hp. It will likely be around the same 671 hp mark as the Hybrid Panamera.

Now, that doesn’t mean the Audi RS7 Performance will be the fastest Audi of all time. Much like the Panamera Hybrid, the Audi RS7 Performance will be very heavy, thanks to its batteries and electric motor. So that will hamper its performance a bit. However, it will be brutally, incredibly fast. Expect a 0-60 mph time in the low three-second range. It will likely be the fastest Audi sedan of all time, though, with only cars like the Audi R8 V10 Plus being faster.

We’re also not so sure it will last as Audi’s most powerful car for a long time. Audi will be revealing an electric car concept at Pebble Beach next week that will be sort of an electric supercar, possibly to replace the Audi R8. So that could become the most powerful Audi of all time when it finally debuts.

Eleven new Audi models to debut in 2019

$

Audi’s model line is about to explode in about a year’s time. Which is kind of crazy, considering the massive turnaround the brand has already had in the past year or so. However, come 2019, Audi will be expanding its lineup with eleven new models.

According to a photo of Audi’s road-map for 2019, seen thanks to the Spanish publication Periodismo del Motor, we can clearly see eleven new models. Admittedly, some of them are cars we’ve already seen before, they’ll just be officially hitting the road in 2019, like the RS5 Sportback.

Some of these new cars will also be facelifted and/or refreshed versions of existing cars, such as the A4 and Q7. Though, some of them will be entirely new cars, which we’ll be seeing and hearing about for the first time.

Both the new Audi RS7 and e-tron Sportback will be all new, showing off both sides of the Audi performance scale, with internal combustion and electrification on either end, respectively. There will also be an A6 Allroad, but we told you about that already, as well as the Audi RS6. So two new A6-family cars will debuting but one is a soft-roader and the other one is a road-legal ballistic missile.

Of these new and upcoming cars, we’re most excited about the Audi RS7 and the e-tron Sportback. The former could be a car of two firsts for Audi Sport — it could be the first to offer two powertrains and the first to offer electrification. The upcoming RS7 is said to have two powertrain options, one a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 making over 600 hp and the other being a hybrid powertrain using that same 4.0 liter V* but with electric motors, making almost 700 hp. That would make it the most powerful Audi of all time.

While the Audi e-tron Sportback could be one of the brand’s most exciting models, given that it will be a sleek, four-door sportback with presumably sharp looks and an all electric powertrain.

VIDEO: Stock Audi RS7 vs 750 hp tuned Audi RS7

$

0

No one has ever accused the Audi RS7 of being slow. With its 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, making 570 hp, the RS7 is capable of 0-60 mph in around 3.7 seconds. That makes it very, very fast. However, if you want some extra power, the RS7’s blown-V8 is very easy to tune up to much more power, with nothing more than an ECU flash and some simple bolt-ons. In this video, we see just how much faster it can be, as a stock RS7 is compared directly with a 750 hp version.

In this new video from AutoTopNL, we get to see, from the view of the gauges, the stock Audi RS7 up top and the 750 hp one on the bottom. At the start, it actually seems like the top one jumped the launch a bit quicker, but these two acceleration runs were likely recorded separately, so the timing is probably not perfectly accurate. However, it’s impressive just how fast both cars accelerate to about 150 km/h (93 mph).

After about 200 km/h (124 mph), though, it’s not even close. The tuned car just keeps on pulling, with brutal acceleration well after 220 km/h. The stock car runs out of puff at 252 km/h (156 mph) but at that point, the tuned Audi RS7 is at 286 km/h (177 mph) and still pulling. The tuned car ends up running past 325 km/h (201 mph), where the speedo runs out of room.

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but 200 mph is seriously fast. Car manufacturers work tirelessly to make their performance cars capable of 200 mph. It’s really difficult to do. But this tuned Audi RS7 is capable of doing it remarkably easily. At that speed, the RS7 is capable of crossing the length of an American football field in one (!) second. One.

So, yes, the stock Audi RS7 is very fast and it doesn’t need any tuning to be fun. However, if you do tune it, you’re in for something crazy.

VIDEO: Audi RS7 caught testing at the Nurburgring

There’s a lot of hubbub surrounding the upcoming second-gen Audi RS7. For starters, it could be the most powerful Audi ever made. Also, it could be the first ever Audi Sport model to be offered with two different powertrains. So, naturally, we’re very interested in it. Thankfully, we get to see a bit of a sneak peak from this new spy video by Automotive Mike.

In this new video, we get to see the Audi RS7 doing some hot laps around the famed Nurburgring. And there are a couple of things we can learn from it. First, we can tell that this is absolutely an RS7, despite the “A7 55 TFSI” badging on it. There are two things that give it away — its artillery-fire soundtrack and its massive dual exhausts. The former suggests a big, monstrous V8 and the latter is an Audi Sport staple. So even though it wears a plebeian A7 badge, this is indeed an Audi RS7.

What else can we learn from this video? Well, it doesn’t seem to be a hybrid. That’s important because it’s rumored that the RS7 could be available with two different powertrains; a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 making around 650 hp and that same engine paired with a hybrid electric setup that would combine to make about 700 hp. While that’s still not out of the question, the car in this video is most certainly not a hybrid.

We know this because it doesn’t have any charge ports on it. It leans and heaves through corners a bit too much as well. While hybrids are typically heavier than their standard ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterparts, their center of gravity is often much lower, thanks to batteries being placed in the belly of the car. This car seems to roll a bit too much to be a hybrid. Which actually isn’t very encouraging. We know the RS7 is going to be heavy but, sheesh, it looks it.

SPIED: Audi RS7 caught testing looking mean

It’s been said that the next-generation of Audi RS7 will be the most powerful car the brand has ever produced. There have been rumors that two powertrain options will be offered to customers, one standard and one hybrid. Both of which are said to be over 650 hp, making the new RS7 more powerful than any other Audi in history. If that’s the case, then it’s a good thing it looks mean in these new spy photos. (We don’t own the photos but they can be seen here)

Seen here wearing camouflage, the new Audi RS7 looks angry. It’s low, lean and mean looking, with its blacked out Singleframe grille, black wheels, black mirror caps and massive black oval exhausts, the latter an Audi Sport staple. We’re already fans of the new Audi A7, now in its second generation. This, though, looks like it could become a fan favorite quite quickly, as it packs a ton of understated aggression.

Those are some interesting wheels, though. They look rather simple and not the sort you’d expect on any Audi Sport model. We’re assuming they’re some sort of test wheels and do not represent the final production wheels. Though, it must be said that it would be refreshing if Audi gave the new RS7 some simpler wheels like these, rather than some of the obnoxiously over-styled wheels we see nowadays.

As we previously mentioned, the next-gen Audi RS7 could pack two powertrains. One of which is a certainty, being a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that will make around 650 hp. That engine will be paired with an eights-speed auto, pack a MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) system and will power all four wheels. However, the rumored second powertrain would be a plug-in hybrid setup, similar to the Porsche Panamera Turbo E S, which would utilize the aforementioned twin-turbo V8 along with an electric motor and some batteries. It’s said that this powertrain could make upwards of 700 hp. Which would be insane.

We can’t wait for the next-gen Audi RS7 but it seems we’re going to have to wait a bit longer. According to Car Scoops, the new RS7 won’t debut until 2020. So we’ll have to wait a while to see what sort of fury the new RS7 creates. Until then, though, take a look at these spy photos.

SPIED: Audi RS7 caught testing again — this time in snow

We’re all waiting with bated breath to see the upcoming second-gen Audi RS7. The first-gen car was such an incredible machine, with stunning looks and blistering performance. Sure, it wasn’t the sharpest of driver’s cars, as it was more of a straight-line bruiser, but it was astonishingly fast and could seat four adults. This next one, though, should be big time and it was just caught testing in the snow. (We don’t own the spy photos but see them here)

Seen doing some winter testing, the second-gen Audi RS7 looks like it’s shaping up to be even better looking than the first-gen car. Sure, it doesn’t look much different than the standard second-gen Audi A7, but that’s already better looking than the first-gen A7. So we’re expecting the same upgrade in looks for the new RS7.

We can tell that this is indeed an Audi RS7 and not just a standard A7 by its lower front splitter, lower ride height, black side mirrors and massive oval exhausts at the back. While it’s not too much different looking than the regular A7, it’s most certainly the big-daddy RS7.

What’s most exciting about the RS7, though, is what’s under the hood. Or at least what’s rumored to be under the hood. According to what we’ve heard so far, the new Audi RS7 will use a twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 to make around 600 hp. However, we’ve also heard that Audi could offer a second powertrain, consisting of that same engine but with a hybrid electric boost, giving it a total power output of 700 hp. That’s a lot, if you didn’t already know.

If that’s the case, not only would the Audi RS7 be the first Audi RS car to offer two powertrains, if would be the most powerful Audi of all time. That sounds good.

VIDEO: Audi RS7 caught making a racket at the Nurburgring

We’ve known for some time that the next-gen Audi RS7 is coming and it could be the most powerful production Audi in history. With a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8, it’s likely to make upwards of 650 hp. However, another first for Audi, there could be two powertrains offered for the RS7 and the second one could be a hybrid making up to 700 hp. While we don’t have any confirmation on its powertrain(s), we do know that it’s going to be powerful and it’s going to be fast. According to this new spy video, it’s also going to be loud.

Seen here on some roads outside of the Nurburgring and then on the famous race track itself, the Audi RS7 shows off its camouflaged body and deep, rumbly V8. At low revs, it has a deep, muscular baritone but it rises in pitch as the revs climb, getting a bit racier. It sounds very good and we want to hear even more.

It’s not all bark and no bite, though. The Audi RS7 looks damn fast on the track. It explodes out of corners and seems to turn in sharply, with tons of grip. While it might not be as exciting as its competitors, the M5 and AMG GT 4-Door, to watch as they make massive tail-slides and produce tons of tire smoke, the RS7 should be every bit as fast. If not faster. With that much power and Audi’s signature levels of mechanical grip, we can see the RS7 becoming the fastest car in a very, very fast segment.

As far as looks, the Audi RS7 is about exactly as we thought it would be. It looks like a more aggressive A7 with bigger wheels, larger dual exhausts, an angrier face and lowered suspension. Still, it looks good and should be one of the lookers in the segment.

Its main competition will actually be the BMW M8 Gran Coupe but that’s yet to debut either. Both of those cars will be sleek, Bavarian, four door “coupes” with massive V8s and equally massive powertrains. We can’t wait for that showdown.

Audi Sport teases six upcoming cars to be revealed this year

With the Audi e-tron dominating the brand’s news cycle over the past year, the Audi Sport division may have felt a bit forgotten. So it’s recently released a teaser image to help remind us all that there are some great RS-badged cars coming later this year. In this new teaser, found by Motor1, we can see six shadowy cars sitting in front of an Audi Sport logo, with only their illuminated headlights as indicators to what they might be.

It might seem a bit tricky to figure them out but once you think about what’s coming and take a look at their shapes, it’s actually not that hard. There are at least three SUVs in this teaser, potentially a wagon and a hatchback and one long sportback. The three SUVs are the Audi RS Q8 (far right) and the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback (two middle cars).

The car that’s second from the right looks like it could be the upcoming Audi RS4 Avant Facelift, as it seems to have a long roof and roof rails but isn’t as tall as an SUV. It also seems to have the same headlights as the new A4 Facelift. We’re interested to see the next-gen RS4 Avant and how its performance may have improved over the current car, given all of its new competitors are faster.

The car all the way on the left also seems to be a wagon of some sort and, judging by its headlights, seems to be an Audi RS6 Avant. That we’re very excited about as it will likely be the fastest car in the Audi Sport lineup that isn’t an R8. It’s going to be packing the brand’s newest 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 with over 600 hp, potentially even around 650 hp. So expect that to be a monster.

Second from the left, the car we see has similar taillights as the car to its left, what we think is the RS6, but it’s low and sleek. So we’re assuming that’s the Audi RS7 Sportback. That could be the most powerful Audi product ever made, if rumors are correct. It’s said that Audi Sport is considering a hybrid powertrain option for the RS7 that could reach nearly 700 hp, like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E Hybrid.

Audi RS6 Avant

Audi RS6 Avant

This teaser proves we have a lot to be excited about in the very near future. Audi is going to be unveiling at least six new high-performance models in just the next few months. Hopefully, some of those cars make it to the US market. We think cars like the RS7, RS Q8 and RS3 will make it ‘Stateside but doubtful about the others.

Upcoming Audi RS7 Sportback Rendered with the RS6 Avant’s Face

We’ve finally just come down from the high that was learning of the Audi RS6 Avant’s upcoming arrival to America. This is a big moment, one that we’ve been asking for since we can remember. It’s finally here and we’re naturally excited about it. One of the more surprising reasons for the optimism surrounding the new RS6 is actually its styling, which is odd due to Audi Sport’s typical design reservation. However, the Audi RS6 is angry and aggressive looking, far more so than we expected. So when we see its new face rendered onto an Audi RS7, we get excited all over again.

The Audi RS7 isn’t going to be new to America, like the next-gen Audi RS6 is. Instead, it’s going to be the second generation to come ‘Stateside. However, this new car is going to be more powerful, more luxurious and, if this render is any accurate, better looking. The first-gen RS7 was a looker itself and this new standard A7 is a stunner on its own. So it’s not exactly surprising that the next-gen RS7 will be good looking. What is surprising is learning that it’s likely going to be this angry looking.

In this render, we clearly see the new Audi RS6 Avant’s face grafted onto an Audi A7, thus turning it into an RS7. And it looks great. It brings all of the RS6’s brutal aggression to the normally sleek and sophisticated A7 body. And it just looks right.

What’s even better is that its angry face will match the dormant brutality that lurks under its skin. While there are no official power figures for the upcoming Audi RS7, it’s likely to get the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the new RS6. If that’s the case, expect around 592 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, as those are the same numbers as the Audi RS6. However, just like the RS6, it will likely be more powerful in reality, as most Audi Sport products have proven to be.

There are also rumors of a hybrid powertrain, similar to that of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E Hybrid, being offered for the RS7, in addition to the standard twin-turbo V8. The rumored hybrid setup is said to make nearly 700 hp and be the most powerful production Audi ever made. Either way, the next-gen RS7 is going to be massively powerful and it’s going to need looks to match. This render proves the RS6’s face can help.

Next week, the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show will kick off an Audi will be on site to show off quite a lot of new metal. Everything from high-performance gasoline cars to funky electric concepts will be at the Audi stand in Frankfurt. So what can we expect to see?

To really kick things off, the Audi RS7 Sportback will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This will be the first time anyone outside Audi will be seeing it and it will be on hand for journalists and fans alike to see in the flesh. We don’t know too much about the RS7, apart from what it will look like, but we do know that it’s likely to have the same powertrain as the newly revealed Audi RS6 Avant. So expect a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 591 hp and 590 lb-ft.

Audi AI:TRAIL Concept

Along with the RS7 Sportback, the Audi AI:TRAIL Concept will also make its worldwide debut. So far we’ve only seen a teaser image of the AI:TRAIL and it seems to be some sort of rugged, all-terrain EV that will likely have some autonomous technology. It’s an interesting an unique concept, so we’re excited to see it.

On top of those all-new cars that will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, there will be some cars we’ve only seen on the internet and not in the flesh. For instance, the facelifted Audi Q7 and A4 will be on hand, showing off their new styling and interior upgrades.

The big one, though, is going to be the Audi RS6 Avant. While some journalists had the chance to see the RS6 in person, most haven’t. So this is a big chance for us to get up close and personal with it and bring some great photos and videos of it. More importantly, it’s going to be a chance for customers and fans to see it in the flesh, sit in it and revel in the fact that it’s going to be a worldwide car for the first-time ever.

There will also be the Audi A1 Citycarver, which is a little oddball of a car, and the Q3 Sportback. We’ll also be able to see the new Audi e-tron FE06 Formula E race car, which looks awesome. So the Frankfurt Motor Show will be filled with new and interesting Audis. Next week can’t come soon enough.
