VIDEO: Audi RS7 understeers on the Nurburgring

This new, second-generation Audi A7 has moved a bit upmarket from the car it replaces. So it’s bigger, heavier, more comfortable and more luxurious. The downside of that, though, is that the new A7 is a bit less dynamic, less exciting than the first-gen car. It’s still an impressive handling car, it just can’t hide its heft and size. It seems as if the same can be said about the new Audi RS7, which was just caught testing at the famed Nurburgring.

Seen here in this new spy video, the Audi RS7 seems fast but also seems big and heavy. As it takes on some of the ‘Ring’s tighter, tougher corners, the big RS7 seems to understeer and bit and you can hear its tires screaming in protest. It doesn’t matter how much power it has, without serious weight savings, it just can’t hide all of its heft.

And it will be powerful. It’s rumored to be packing over 600 hp from a twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the Porsche Panamera Turbo. There’s also word that it could be offered with an additional powertrain, a hybrid setup using the same V8 but with an electric motor to add power, making a total of about 700 hp. This would be a similar powertrain to that of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E Hybrid.

Though, we’re not so sure corners are exactly what the new Audi RS7 will be about. It’s going to be mainly for going incredibly fast in a straight line while being wrapped in supreme comfort and style. And stylish it will be. This RS7 might seem like it understeers but it looks damn good doing it. Plus, it’s going to have one of the coolest interiors in the business. We’ve yet to see Audi Sport make a version of Audi’s new interior, featured on the A8, A7 and A6.
